My mom, Sandy as some of you know her by, left pain and suffering and went home to see her King Jesus in heaven last night. Our family is very thankful for your prayers and thoughts. We know that as we sit quietly in the Light of His Presence, Our Father will infuse us with peace.

I went on a 7 day journey with 4 guys and a photographer to chase the idea of reckless generosity - it was one of the most challenging yet life changing projects I’ve ever been on. We learned a lot about the world, ourselves, and Jesus. follow some of the journey on instagram #thereforego - and check back for the video in a few weeks. http://instagram.com/cloope facebook.com/cloope

Help me get this project out there - It’s challenging me daily, and I think it will encourage others as well.

Check out my good friend’s project:

Check out this remix of Oceans that my friend laid down. So good…

Setting the Culture

Hillsong Conference 2013 - LA - Brian Houston

image

I had the pleasure of attending Hillsong Conference 2013 in LA this past weekend with my team. What a blast! There was a lot of stuff I walked away with, but I wanted to share this first.

Brian Houston, the senior leader at Hillsong Church, shared his heart about how he feels it is of the utmost importance for him to set the culture with his staff. He said we have certain cultural responsibilities.

Enough setup, here is the list:

Cultural Responsibilities

1) I am a CAN DO person. - Philippians 4:13
2) This is not my job, this is my life - John 10:11-13
Build around calling. Build people up, bring them up.
3) Serve The Lord with gladness.
Don’t approach every task by doing the minimum amount of work. Don’t be ruled by ‘I have to do this’. There is no vibrancy, no excitement in that mindset. You can’t fake it. Having joy and excitement at work becomes attractive, magnetic.
*show up early, show love, be happy, change culture.
4) Empowerment starts with me.
Don’t be overly complicated. You empower the people around you and above you. This is an interesting thought: don’t weigh down those above you (leadership) with excess drama. They are able to focus on what they need to focus on and empower you to do your work.
5) No gossip - We are the last to know. Pretty straight-forward.
6) I am one of them, not one of us.
Work (think, act, perform) like you are a part of the leadership in your workplace. There is not a Them vs Us mentality. Suddenly you are part of the answer not part of the problem.
7) I will bring them on the journey. (Team, family, etc)
Be careful of where you dump your issues, complaints, etc. Don’t let it affect your family life. When you resolve issues at work, follow up at home so everyone knows things are great.
Don’t let Family and Church time compete. It’s not boxed. Sort it out at home.
8) My tone is not whiny. Consider what is my tone? True encouragement.
9) I delegate, but I don’t dump. This is a big discouragement. We are in this for the long haul. This is a 2 way street. Just because you can call someone at 10pm doesn’t mean you should.
10) Love God, love people, love life.
No grandstanding, no pseudo-spirituality. We will build what we are for and not what we are against.
*disclaimer - not all of these are exact quotes, most are my version of what Brian said.
